ATLAS ERGONOMICS TEAMS WITH THE ERGONOMICS CENTER
GRAND HAVEN, Michigan, August 23, 2004 -- Atlas Ergonomics, LLC (Grand Haven, Michigan), a provider of ergonomic services for the office environment, announced today that it has teamed with The Ergonomics Center (Raleigh, North Carolina), which is housed within the College of Engineering of North Carolina State University, and provides extensive ergonomic consulting, research, and training services. Through the relationship, The Center will provide accredited ergonomic training to Atlas' representatives, and both organizations will use a combination of field data and academic studies to identify ergonomic best practices.
"The Ergonomics Center is an industry leader, and is one of only a few organizations that offer consultation, training, and research within a single center," said Drew Bossen, Executive Vice President of Atlas Ergonomics. "We have two goals with the relationship. First, we want to provide highly trained resources to our clients. By combining their experience within occupational or physical therapy, Atlas systems training, and the accredited ergonomic training from The Center, we believe they can address both the mechanics of office design and the biomechanics of the individual better than anyone. Second, by combining Atlas data base information and research completed in The Center, we can more accurately identify risk and the most effective solutions."
"One of The Center's focuses is involvement with cutting edge ergonomic research and guideline development, including projects funded by OSHA and NIOSH," said Tim McGlothlin, Executive Director of The Ergonomics Center. "We believe the database being developed by Atlas can become the largest source of field information on the causes of, and solutions to work related discomfort in offices. The database may be used to predict the type of discomfort likely to occur, given certain conditions present, and how discomfort is impacted by a set of solutions. The Center can use the information to support current or past studies, as well as identify future areas of research."
The accredited training starts in September, and will provide a working knowledge of office ergonomics issues, workplace evaluation techniques, and effective solutions to address the risk and incidence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in the workplace. The sharing of research and data will occur on an ongoing basis.
