ATLAS ERGONOMICS V.P. TO ADDRESS "GROWING ISSUE" OF OFFICE OBESITY

GRAND HAVEN, Michigan, March 11, 2005 - Most people know that the American population is getting heavier. However, few know how the trend can affect worker safety and comfort. Drew Bossen, Executive Vice President of Atlas Ergonomics LLC, will present "Size Matters: Shaping the Future of Ergonomics" at the 8th Annual Applied Ergonomics Conference in New Orleans, March 21 through 24.

Bossen has worked for years with overweight employees on ergonomic issues. In addition, his company has recently completed an extensive study on how height and weight correlate to specific ergonomic risks and discomfort (e.g., shoulder pain, upper back pain, etc.).

The session will discuss current obesity trends and their impact in an office environment. Data from multiple call centers will be presented, showing Body Mass Index distribution and its relationship to employee discomfort. Bossen will also identify current areas of concern, including a significant gap between the size of employees and BIFMA (Business and Industry Furniture Manufacturers Association) standards for typical office seating.

Bossen's session will occur on Wednesday, March 23 at 8:00 a.m. Conference attendees are also invited to visit with Bossen at the Atlas Ergonomics booth during the conference.
