The costs of driver discomfort
Commercial drivers experience long hours, varied conditions and relentless road vibration. The continual assault on their bodies from driving makes it more likely that they will be hurt, fatigued, or to look for another job.
For one of our clients, 85% of their drivers reported discomfort: half reported shoulder, lower back and head and/or neck pain, and more than a third reported knee and wrist/hand pain.
Consider that, on average, just one back or neck injury can cost an employer $84,000 to $168,000 (direct and indirect costs), not including lost revenues if you have a driver shortage.
Also, consider that the annualized turnover within the long-haul industry can average more than 100%, dramatically affecting recruiting and training costs, productivity, and safety.
